"BOLD, BRIGHT & NEAT" Since 1949
"Tahiti Felix" Lynch was a born and raised American but when he married his Tahitian bride and embraced the polynesian lifestyle (he could speak like a true native islander!) he affectionately solidified his nickname of "Tahiti Felix". He was apprenticed at the world famous "Pike" in Long Beach, California by tattoo artist Mac McKeaver during the late 1930's. It was not until after WW2 in the summer of 1949 he would relocate and set up his own tattoo parlour just south of Los Angeles in beautiful San Diego, California with his wife and two sons.
San Diego is home to the U.S. Navy's Pacific fleet, nearby Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton as well as the millions of tourists visiting yearly, has kept the shop "buzzing" for well over 60+ years!
Son's Maurice and Hiro continued in their father's footsteps at Tahiti Felix's Master Tattoo from the late 1970's until 2009.
From 2009 until present, brother-in-law "Tahiti Gil" has kept the "family business" intact and continues to promote the history and legacy of the shop by traveling, attending tattoo conventions worldwide, publishing trade/sketch books, vintage tattoo flash art, and donating his free time & tattoo artifacts to museum exhibitions promoting the history of tattooing and the shop.
Fast forward to 2012, after being invited to "guest" in Hobart, Tasmania and after several return trips as a resident guest Gil would partner as creative director with owner Don Darkson to officially transform Hellfire Tattoo studio to "Tahiti Felix's Master Tattoo" to become the official Australian branch extending the "Tahiti Felix" experience to Australia and the southern hemisphere. - And yes, we are still Tassie and owned and operated!
